The Mongol Beavers are a group of four students from Aberystwyth University, in Wales, who are planning on embarking on a truly outlandish, and foolish escapade over the summer of 2007, to take part in the Mongol Rally.
For the uninitiated, the Mongol Rally is a wacky races style journey, whereby 200 cars, which as stated by the organisers "you wouldn't trust to take you to the shops", with a maximum engine capacity of 1.0 Litre, race from Hyde Park, in London, and over a period of three to five weeks, travel 1/4 the way around the globe, to finish in Ulaanbataar, Mongolia, in the name of adventure, exploration, foolishness, fun, and most importantly, charity.
Last year, some 167 vehicles departed Hyde Park, with a surprisingly high number of 117 arriving in Ulaanbataar, anywhere up to six weeks later, and having helped to raise the share prices of Gaffa tape by several pounds!
This year there are 200 places, and we had to use a mixture of guile, cunning, bribery, and sheer luck to get a place, with the first 150 places going in 30 seconds!!
In this site, you will find details of our planning and preparation as it unfolds, and eventually, our Blog, photos, and dramas, from the actual rally!
